For decades the renowned American percussionist and composer Gerry Hemingway is at the forefront of improvisational music, interested in extending the vocabulary of percussion instruments to create richly textured and vibrant compositions. Since 1974 he has played in numerous Jazz- and Bebop Ensembles, was part of the Anthony Braxton Quartet from 1983-1994, and he is a core member of the Anthony Davis Episteme Ensemble. Moreover, he has worked with several key figures of Jazz, including Evan parker, Cecil Taylor and Derek Bailey. Gerry Hemingway (born 1955) lives in Switzerland and teaches at the Lucerne School of Music since 2009.
