Talk as part of the exhibition "Cacophony of Things"

Two selected quotations from "The Sex Appeal of the Inorganic" by Italian philosopher Mario Perniola, together with Clarice Lispector’s "The Passion According to G.H." (1964) are the starting point for the conversation between Jala Wahid and Jan Verwoert. While in his 1994 publication, Perniola considers the human being as a "thing that feels" amidst a culture of desire, in "The Passion According to G.H.", feeling and the body are reconsidered through an account of the crisis G.H. experiences, initiated by her confrontation with a cockroach.

Jala Wahid (born 1988, UK) finished her studies in Fine Art at Goldsmith College London in 1994. She is co-editor of SALT, a magazine on feminism and contemporary art. Jan Verwoert is critic and author and teaches at Kunstakademiet in Oslo and Piet Zwart Institute Rotterdam. Selected Publications: "Bas Jan Ader: In Search of the Miraculous"; "Tell Me What You Want What You Really Really Want"; "Cookie!“.
