INTROSPECTION IN THE EXHIBITION SPACE
with Arjan Stockhausen
7 September 2021

We direct attention inward to encounter inner structures in meditative guidance. These, like material, are first examined for their texture. In this way, unconscious layers of ourselves become conscious. Learning to feel in a new way — with the possibility of experiencing and recognizing an underlying nature of every inner phenomenon. Peace and relaxation are concomitants of a deeper understanding.

Arjan Stockhausen, born 1992, studied at United World College USA (New Mexico), Kunstakademie Düsseldorf and Städelschule Frankfurt. He has exhibited at Johan (Frankfurt) and Gold & Beton (Cologne). He has participated in exhibitions at Kunstpalast, KIT, K21, (Düsseldorf), Cité des Arts (Paris), as well as Neuer Aachener - and Dortmunder Kunstverein. For one year he was co-director of the Pure Fiction collective. He has performed in the Kunsthallen Darmstadt and Düsseldorf, in the Seminar für Erkenntnistheorie at the HHU, in the Frankfurt Airport at the invitation of Portikus, in Traumathek (Cologne) as well as at King Georg (Cologne). His sound installations were in the British Pavilion at the Architecture Biennale in Venice and most recently at the Kölnischer Kunstverein. He has taught meditation at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, a seminar called "Silence" at the Summer School of the Alanus Hochschule and as a visiting professor of art and theory at the China Art Academy, Hangzhou.
