ROLL OVER. REFLECTIONS ON DOCUMENTARY, AFTER RICHARD LEACOCK
Yto Barrada, Duncan Campbell, Jan Dietvorst & Roy Villevoye, Luke Fowler & Anna McLauchlan, Richard Leacock, Fernando Sánchez Castillo, Hirofumi Suda
16 February – 21 April 2013

"Roll Over" is a tribute to the lifelong commitment to the development of cinematography by British-American filmmaker Richard Leacock (London 1921-2011 Paris), especially his achievements in ‚direct cinema‘. In his aspiration to get closer to reality and to shape the world, he developed a very specific methodology. Part of this was his innovative use of hand-held cameras, allowing for a more direct recording and synchronization of image and sound, standing in total contrast to the established clear images with their out-of-focus shots. The exhibition features two rare films by Richard Leacock alongside recent works of contemporary artists, contextualizing his filmic work in the framework of visual arts.

Guest curator: Bianca Visser, Utrecht, in cooperation with Regina Barunke
