Unruly Kinships

On Friday, the 28th of April, from 7 p.m. onwards, an unusually unruly event will take place at Temporary Gallery, Centre for Contemporary Art in Cologne. We will host an interactive night of sharing our feelings concerning different forms of kinship in our lives – it will be a gathering about love, intimacy, bonding, friendship, comradeship, sex, family relationships, and all other forms of being close that we imagine to be possible. We will collectively “mother” ourselves and each other: give attention, support and care – in short, we will become the MOTHERERS.

This hybrid performance night/ reading session/ bar night/ party aims to create connections between participants, contributors and audience members. Your feelings can be shared in the form of live or recorded performances, statements, songs, poetry, short stories, movement or dance, food that you have prepared, plants you are caring for, among other possibilities. The contributions will be part of the Festival of Feelings which is the closing event to the exhibition UNRULY KINSHIPS.

We invite you to submit a proposal for your own contribution to the evening.

We could arrange simple equipment, such as sound amplification, microphone, projector. The act should not exceed 20 minutes and it may include a simple set up, which should be done right before the act and not be too laborious. As part of the exhibition, Temporary Gallery currently host some artworks, which will be also present during this event, therefore the available space is limited. A fee is available for each participant. For logistical purposes, we encourage contributions from the city of Cologne and its surrounding region.

The submissions will be read by a jury consisting of Kris Dittel, Meryem Erkus, Aneta Rostkowska and Anbid Zaman.

Please send your proposal by Monday, 10.04, midnight to with “Call for Feelings” in the subject line. Besides the short description (a one-page pdf or voice recording of max 7 minutes) you may include links or additional information, feel free to show yourself.

We will get back to you by Friday, 14.04 the latest.
