HOSPITALITY BETWEEN FOLDS. Series for Hospitable Literature
Second Fold
7 Juli, 7 p.m.

Curated and moderated by Maria Babusch, invited by Lisa Klosterkötter

The program stands in dialogue with the exhibition Embracing the Fold by Kinke Kooi and Roland Schimmel.

Under the title Hospitality between Folds, Temporary Gallery is hosting a three-part Series for Hospitable Literature. This is not only related to the title of the current exhibition Embracing the Fold. The content of the program is also based on the works of artists Kinke Kooi and Roland Schimmel. Readings and talks, with performance and sound, will deal with the theme of hospitality and bring it together with the idea of the fold, the folded and the folding. The series is curated and moderated by the author Maria Babusch, invited by the curator of the exhibition, Lisa Klosterkötter.

On 07.07.2025 the second of three folds will open up. The author Amuna Wagner will be our guest and read from her text Elzaine's Eulogy. A novel that develops its ghost-inclusive hospitality from a sensory opulence of the language. With the Persian bookstore and publishing house Forough Book, based in Mauritius quarter, our neighbors will be our guests. Anahita Redisiu and Nahid A. Musawi will give us an insight into the work of the poet Forough Farrokhzad in a bilingual reading.

For the second fold, there will be a book table by Forough Book in addition to the readings. The bookshop and publishing house from Cologne is the largest distributor of Persian Exile literature and will bring a selection of its titles to our event. These include contemporary Iranian literature as well as classics and titles on the subject of the Iranian women's revolution Jin Jiyan Azadi. You can look forward to these and other fiction and non-fiction books on Monday at the Temporary Gallery

- The series for hospitable literature is going to un-fold. It has three folds, each of them folding themselves once more, twice more, wrinkling on the edges, and wrinkles folding themselves into more wrinkles: this is where the search for hospitality begins.

- The series for hospitable literature focuses on the young Cologne scene, because it believes that we need to think hospitality locally. In times like these.

- Hospitality between Folds stands for including terrible monsters into your notion of realism, for saying: Yes, there are terrible monsters underneath your bed, and in the closet too, and in the hallway as well. That's normal.

- Hospitality between Folds propagates a hospitality for all those who feel comfy in a room full of clutter. A Hospitality of decor. A Queer Hospitality.

- In relation to the exhibition Embracing the Fold, the series for hospitable literature stands for warm immersion. Seeking security in words.

- Hospitality between Folds is certain that with the right folding technique, a book can turn into a roof over one’s head.

- Hospitality between Folds aims for a different kind of thinking about accessibility. About hospitality as a bond across differences.

- The series for hospitable literature is the folding fan in the hands of the overworked drag queen across the bar.

- Hospitality Between Folds means: the fight for affordable housing is a poetic one.

- Otherwise, Hospitality Between Folds would suggest to the terrible monsters that, if they don't like the story anymore, they should break free from „the narrator's house“. (Anne Carson)

- When the sad song of the accordion becomes unbearable, the series for hospitable literature places its head between the folds, longing for home.
