this term needs a translation (layover)
14 / 15 / 16 March, 3—7 p.m.
Part of the exhibition VISIBLE, INVISIBLE, IRRELEVANT?
Location: Temporary Gallery
Admission free
Who do you want to get to know?
Where do queers find genuine affection?
How can queer desires for connection become visible in a repressive environment?
With these questions in mind, Kükelhahn invites visitors to activate the space of Temporary Gallery as a place to seek contact.
Using the stationery available at the table, visitors can create an anonymous and uniquely customised personal ad (layover). The personals are categorised by: Romantic, Platonic and Other.
Written personal adverts are then displayed in the room for all visitors to inspect. Visitors who feel drawn to the adverts can approach the flight attendants in the room to make contact with the people behind the adverts.
The exhibition Visible, invisible, irrelevant? can be visited during the opening hours.
This artistic work emphasises the participatory moment in the environment of the performance and installation. (layover) is an activation that has been travelling to various art spaces in Germany since 14 February 2025, gathering the personal ads from previous locations and taking them to new venues.
Kükelhahn's (they/them) work is always transdisciplinary. The interview is their sculptural material with which Kükelhahn creates and examines the environment for a critique of representation, transcultural grey areas and collective knowledge transfer. Formally, Kükelhahn develops site-specific, spatial encounters in which they build on the basis of intimacy, empathy and ‘cuteness’. In the joint encounter of different people with their stories, contexts and activities, they form sculptures of participation – counterbalancing discriminatory social reproductions of the present. Since 2020, their field of research is centered around the art context itself.
Funding and support:
The exhibition is sponsored by the RheinEnergieStiftung Kultur, the Stadtsparkasse Köln/Bonn and the Commerzbank-Stiftung.
